Crafty, Inc.
I have been working on getting my little shop together located in Crafty Inc. Bellingham. My little shoe line is coming together nicely. I have been inspired by some great vintage shoes that I have seen along with a stash of vintage 1950’s children’s shoe patterns that I got. So far the latest question has been whether I should chose a different name other than Adagio. In fact one question is what on earth is adagio and how do you say it?
Adagio – (a DA jee oh) is a musical term. It refers to graceful oftentimes soft expressive passages. I think this rather fitting of the things that inspire me. Music is an inspiration and common thread in everything that I do. Texture is another. one thing that you can’t do online is touch and feel. This is unfortunate because that is part of what makes my work unique. Whether it is the incredibly soft and cuddly feel of my plushies, smooth glovey feel of the leather used in my children’s shoes. Everything is not only nice to look at, it is important to me that they feel wonderful to the touch.
At any rate, adagio is not exactly the easiest word to say for a kid. So at the suggestion and unanimous vote of my consultants
, my line of kid’s shoes will be called “PS”. Simple to remember and easy to say.
So what can you look forward to seeing at Crafty, Inc.? Custom made children’s shoes using classic materials and not so classic materials. The feel is pared down and fresh with a sort of vintage modern look. I use leather, vintage and recycled material, wool felt, and vegan friendly ‘Kork’. I will post more about the materials and such in future posts. So check back often.
